Parramatta Eels forward Ryan Matterson is being offered to Super League clubs as a potential recruit. Despite being under contract with the Eels until the end of the 2026 season—thanks to a lucrative four-year extension he signed in 2022 to fend off interest from other NRL teams—Matterson appears to be on the lookout for a move.
The 30-year-old, who is the nephew of former Castleford coach Terry Matterson, was given the green light to leave the club midway through last year. Though a move didn’t happen at the time, his name is back in the mix as his management has alerted Super League clubs to his availability.
Matterson hasn’t played a single game for the Eels in 2025, only being listed as a reserve for their match against the Canberra Raiders. His lack of involvement this season has increased speculation that he may not see out the remainder of his contract.
Matterson started his NRL career with the Sydney Roosters in 2016, later moving to Wests Tigers before joining the Eels in 2020. His solid performances even earned him a New South Wales State of Origin cap in 2022. Known for his versatility in the forward pack, Matterson is a potential transfer target for Super League clubs looking to strengthen their squads.
With several Super League teams actively scouting the Australian market for high-profile signings for 2026, players like Canterbury’s Tom Amone are already attracting attention—particularly from Leigh, Warrington, and Hull KR. Matterson now seems to be emerging as the next big name on their radar.
