Official Statement from Duke Head Coach Jon Scheyer
On Being Invited for Consideration into the 2025 Basketball Hall of Fame
I’m incredibly honored and humbled to have received an invitation for consideration into the 2025 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class. To even be mentioned in the same breath as so many legends of the game is something I never could have imagined when I first began this journey—as a young player, as a student of the game, and now as a coach.
This recognition is not about me alone. It’s a reflection of the people, values, and tradition that define Duke Basketball. I’ve had the privilege to learn from some of the greatest minds in the sport, especially Coach Mike Krzyzewski, whose leadership shaped not just my approach to basketball, but my approach to life. I’m grateful to have inherited a program built on excellence, discipline, and unity.
This moment belongs to every player I’ve coached, every teammate I’ve had, and every staff member, administrator, and supporter who has poured their heart into our shared mission. To our fans—especially the Cameron Crazies—your energy and passion have made Duke Basketball what it is. To my family—thank you for your unwavering support through every step of this journey.
While this is not an induction, simply being invited for consideration is an incredible milestone, and one that motivates me to continue leading with humility, hunger, and gratitude. There’s still more to do, more to build, and more to give back to the game that has given me so much.
Thank you to the Hall of Fame for this tremendous honor.
Go Duke.
