Rob Halford has revealed that Judas Priest will release a “colossal” version of ‘War Pigs’ featuring shared vocals with the late-great Ozzy Osbourne.
Already booked as special guests at Scorpions’ 60th anniversary homecoming show in Hanover, Judas Priest were unable to perform at Black Sabbath and Ozzy’s final Back to the Beginning concert in July.
On the week of the star-studded Villa Park extravaganza, Judas Priest honoured their fellow West Midlands metal legends by unleashing a ferocious cover of Black Sabbath’s seminal anti-war anthem ‘War Pigs’.
In a new interview with Full Metal Jackie, Rob Halford teased a duet version of ‘War Pigs’, saying: “What is cool and what is kind of waiting in the wings is Ozzy singing with me doing ‘War Pigs’ together. We’ve been able to do that. It’s there, we’re just having to go through all the rigmarole of legal clearance and so on and so forth.”
Rob explained the idea was the brainchild of Sharon Osbourne, adding: “She approached me with this idea, she said, ‘I love your version of ‘War Pigs.’ Is there a way we can get Ozzy?’ I was (like), ‘You’re asking me?! This is gonna happen!’
“So you get Ozzy singing a line and then I’m singing a line and Ozzy’s singing a line and I’m singing a line. It’s the first ever time in my entire life that I’ve been able to do a duet with Ozzy and I’m so eternally grateful and blessed that I was able to do that.โ
Confirming the collaboration sounds “colossal”, Rob enthused: “When you hear Priest’s ‘War Pigs’ with Ozzy singing on that track, it’s just going to a really special place.”
Asked when it will be released, Rob replied: “The green button’s almost ready to go. We’re finalising some artwork and bits and pieces that you have to go through. But I think it’s gonna be pretty soon.”
