BREAKING: Tennis Legend Björn Borg Invests $6.7 Million to Build Living Facility for Homeless Youth in Stockholm
In a powerful move to support vulnerable young people in his native Sweden, tennis icon Björn Borg has announced a $6.7 million investment to create a state-of-the-art living facility for homeless youth in Stockholm, the city where he was born and raised.
The new initiative, called “Borg Haven”, will transform an aging historic property in central Stockholm into a comprehensive transitional housing center for youth aged 14–22 who are facing homelessness, instability, or are aging out of foster care. The facility will offer more than shelter—it will provide therapeutic support, education services, life skills training, and a stable environment to help young people rebuild their lives.
“This city gave me everything,” Borg said during a press conference held at the future site of the facility. “Now I want to give something back—especially to those who’ve had the hardest road.”
Long after his reign as world No. 1 and winner of 11 Grand Slam titles, Borg has committed himself to youth advocacy through the Borg Foundation, a nonprofit he founded to support wellness and opportunity for disadvantaged children across Scandinavia. This latest investment is the foundation’s largest project to date.
The “Borg Haven” facility will include:
- 30 beds in a mix of private and shared rooms
- Classrooms and computer labs for GED and vocational prep
- On-site mental health and substance abuse counselors
- A shared kitchen and nutrition education center
- Sports and fitness areas
- A rooftop garden and outdoor meditation space
In designing the program, Borg worked closely with local youth organizations, including Stockholms Stadsmission and Barnrättsbyrån, to ensure that the facility is built around the real needs of young people in the community.
“I didn’t want this to be some far-off charity project,” Borg said. “I wanted to be on the ground, listening and learning. The resilience I see in these kids—the strength—it’s incredible. They just need a fair chance.”
The center is expected to open by mid-2026, with full staffing and programming in place. Borg has pledged not just to fund the construction, but to sustain operations for at least the first five years.
Stockholm’s mayor, Anna König Jerlmyr, praised the project as “visionary and compassionate,” saying, “Björn Borg is once again a champion—not just in sport, but in service to others. This is the kind of legacy that truly endures.”
From Wimbledon glory to humanitarian leadership, Borg continues to inspire on and off the court. With “Borg Haven,” he’s building more than just walls—he’s building hope, dignity, and a future for those who need it most.
