Done deal: Old Dominion transfer quarterback Grant Wilson signs with Nebraska…

Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule has added a significant piece to his rebuilding efforts, as former Old Dominion quarterback Grant Wilson officially signed with Nebraska on Friday. The move marks a major step in reshaping the Cornhuskers’ offense heading into the upcoming season.

Wilson, who spent the past two seasons with the Old Dominion Monarchs, entered the transfer portal following a standout year. In 2024, the 6’3”, 215-pound quarterback threw for 2,850 yards and 24 touchdowns while showcasing his dual-threat capabilities with an additional 550 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground. His dynamic playstyle caught the attention of several Power Five programs, but Nebraska ultimately won the recruiting battle.

Wilson’s Statement

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Nebraska family,” Wilson said in a statement after the announcement. “The tradition, the fans, and the vision Coach Rhule has for this program are things I couldn’t pass up. I’m ready to work hard and help bring Nebraska back to the top.”

Wilson is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job immediately, providing the Cornhuskers with much-needed experience under center. Last season, Nebraska struggled offensively, finishing 11th in the Big Ten in total yards and failing to establish consistency in the passing game. Wilson’s addition could be the spark the team needs to revitalize its offense.

A Perfect Fit for Nebraska’s Scheme

Coach Rhule has made no secret of his desire to modernize Nebraska’s offense, and Wilson’s skill set aligns perfectly with that vision. His ability to extend plays with his legs, coupled with a strong and accurate arm, fits Rhule’s philosophy of aggressive, fast-paced football.

“We’re thrilled to have Grant join us,” Rhule said during the press conference. “He’s a competitor, a leader, and someone who will push this team to be better every single day. His versatility will add a new dimension to our offense.”

Building Toward a Bright Future

Wilson joins a growing list of transfer players and high school recruits Rhule has brought to Nebraska in his quest to restore the program to its former glory. Fans are optimistic that the quarterback’s arrival signals a turning point for the Cornhuskers, who have not won a conference championship since 1999.

With spring practices just around the corner, all eyes will be on Wilson as he begins his journey in Lincoln. For Nebraska, the addition of the talented signal-caller could be the start of a much-needed resurgence.
